Don't let Michael Schnabel's photography fool you.
At first glance, you might notice his landscapes often feature wide open spaces - - - but the word "empty" does not seem to fit, because each shot is brimming with emotional impact. From his site: "The image is something that the viewer does not so much see as sense or feel. He becomes aware of an inner landscape rather than merely perceiving a photographically captured scene."
Another person might gaze at his images, and marvel at the places of extraordinary beauty in the world where he has chosen to photograph - - but make no mistake – while his images may feel effortless and engaging, each shot is carefully – meticulously – crafted into being. The smallest details of each photo work in harmony to create nuanced, subtle, and even sublime images. Perhaps it is this attention to detail that ultimately can give Michael Schnabel's images a dream-like quality – as if you are looking at a place that you have already been, but cannot say how.
Few photographers are as completely at home in the field of both artistic and applied photography. While selections from his commercial work are featured here, there will be another article on HappyFriday showcasing Schnabel's breathtaking fine art imagery. Michael is well respected the world over for not only his landscape photography, but for his other images which include everything from automobiles to architecture, not to mention people.
When he is not traveling around the world, Michael Schabel makes Stuttgart home.
