Beauty is a calling as well as a never-ending source of inspiration and exploration for photographer Torkil Gudnason. Knowing this helps to understand why natural elements are so often integral to his images – there is a reverence for the way nature constantly evolves and changes. “Not one moment is the same,” he says – just as each moment with a model reveals endless permutations, with shapes that are both ancient and timeless, as well as contemporary and fascinating. “Everything manmade references nature,” he says.
Originally from Denmark, Torkil Gudnason approaches photography with a no-nonsense, Scandinavian sensibility. His style is simple and graphic – which gives the subject of each of his images a distinct punch.
The artful harmony he creates between curve, line, skin and color is at once extravagant and sensuous. These qualities have attracted clients around the globe, from L’Oreal to Lexus. Crossing over to shoot cars pushed Torkil’s creative boundries, and allowed him to bring some of his signature qualities to a new arena - - I think you will agree the results are beautiful.
In the last few years Torkil Gudnason has been devoting more time to his passion; Fine Art photography, which is shown at a number of prestigious galleries and museums across the world. Torkil is currently based in New York City.
