Andrew Zuckerman's signature minimalist photography style acts as a perfect foil for the wonder of nature - showcasing the mind-boggling complexity and color within each individual blossom. The deceptively simple, consistent approach across the large selection of specimens underlines the the astonishing variety found in nature, while allowing us, the happy spectators, to marvel at these beauties as we view them in startling detail.
Zuckerman's book includes images of 150 flower species – and represents a singular achievement in patience. I cannot help, when I look at this body of work, to draw a comparison between these images and the natural history drawings of the 1800s – in some ways, it's as if this represents a much-needed update to that old-fashioned documentation of our natural world, and the wonders to be found within it.
